STORAGE:
It is no secret that public warehousing
offers storage. Though we can handle almost any non-hazardous
commodity, we have established ourselves as specialists to these
industries: tobacco, appliances, ingredients, plastics, food and
beverage containers, non-hazardous animal and agricultural supplies,
paper and general commodities.
DISTRIBUTION:
Merchants is literally at the crossroads
of America - the intersection of Interstate 80 and 35 in Des Moines,
Iowa. It's an ideal spot for handling your pool distribution,
as well as warehousing inventory. Almost any place in the continental
U. S. is just three days by truck, a few more by rail. Better
yet, there are no tax penalties on inventories stored in Iowa.
If your final destination is outside Iowa, you do not pay property
tax on the goods. In fact, you pay corporate income tax only on
what you deliver and sell in Iowa.
TRANSPORTATION:
Moving products and materials
in and out of Merchants is easier than you think. We have 40 truck
dock doors, which means no waiting to load or unload. Our private
rail sidings hold up to 14 cars at a time, and free reciprocal
switching connects your shipment to any of the three Class I railroads
serving Des Moines. TOFC-COFC and piggyback drayage services are
available, too. We operate our own local and short-haul cartage
service. A growing number of Merchants customers depend on our
local pickup and delivery service, which saves them time, money,
and headaches.
